Chardonnay is generally recognised as the world’s greatest white variety, a versatile grape that produces fine wines in many different wine regions. The Blue Pyrenees Chardonnay 2019 has been created from 4 different outstanding Chardonnay fruit parcels selected from mature vineyard blocks, plus a touch of Viognier. The 2018 / 2019 growing season had a cool start, then a warm dry summer & autumn to finish, which produced small but intense crops, and no problems achieving desired ripe flavours with balanced levels of natural acidity. Several different winemaking techniques then added the complexity that this wine style is famous for in many regions around the world. 50% natural yeast fermentation, 50% matured in used French oak barriques, after barrel fermentation, 100% yeast lees stirring or battonage, and 50% malo-lactic fermentation has added both complexity and richness to the vineyard derived fruit flavours. The result is a medium-bodied crisp dry white wine with the classic complex flavour profile sought in great Chardonnays.
