Eyes

Bright ruby red

Nose

Perfumed aromas of violets and thyme over dark mulberry fruit.

Mouth

Black cherry fruit with ginger and dried herbs, in a vibrant medium bodied style that has a long savoury rhubarb character persisting long after being present in the mouth. This wine is a great match for venison, duck, game birds or cheese, or just try on it’s own for something different.

Winemaking Notes

This Blue Pyrenees Exclusive Release Malbec 2019 is a unique regional version of one of the lesser known red grapes of Bordeaux, where Malbec has long been a blender, but is the main red grape behind the wines of Cahors & has become the popular red grape of choice for Argentinian red wines. Now Australians have also discovered it can produce wonderful varietal wines on its own.

Once again, well below average yields in a warm year characterised the 2018 / 2019 growing season in the Pyrenees, but the low crops and early season allowed Malbec to show off its intense varietal notes at app. 13.5 Beaume sugar level.

Hand harvesting, then fermentation in two tonne open fermenters for 7 days before pressing & maturing in old French oak barriques for 12 months completed the wine.
