2019 Richardson Shiraz

$60

Smell
Aroma is filled with the distinctive ripe Pyrenees Shiraz aromas of blueberry fruit, liquorice, five spice and cardamom, framed by American and French oak.

Taste
The palate is plush and enticing with flavours of blueberry, liquorice, black olive and spice. A soft and elegant mid palate is enhanced by the subtle vanilla oak characters and the wine finishes with great length and persistence.

Winemaking Notes
The Richardson Series of wines are produced only in great vintages, from the most characterful parcels of grapes, identified by the Blue Pyrenees winemakers, as having the potential to make an iconic red wine, as a tribute to the late Colin Richardson, himself a larger-than-life character. These wines are vinified and matured separately before confirmation of suitability to be called “Richardson” then prepared for bottling.

These grapes displayed a great intensity of regional and varietal Shiraz characters as they reached optimum ripeness and balance. With ideal growing conditions in 2019, there were no problems reaching maturity before crushing these grapes in March 2019. Following primary ferment, the wine was transferred to oak barrels for 24 months maturation in 30% new American and French oak barriques ensuring complexity, smoothness and integration of all flavour components before bottling.
