Winemaker's Comments
Sourced from block 25, a 0.5-hectare parcel planted in 2001 on a steep south-facing slope at Blue Pyrenees Estate. This aspect receives less direct sunlight than the north-west-facing blocks. Rows run down the slope in a north-south orientation, maximising airflow and promoting even ripening. The soil is rich red loam over light-medium clay, derived from weathered sandstone, with a high percentage of rocky quartz that radiates heat, gently aiding ripening on this cooler section of the vineyard. The shallow, rocky soils naturally restrict yields, with vines cropped at 4.5 t/ha. Fruit was fermented as whole berries with gentle extraction to preserve purity and lift. Maturation followed in seasoned French oak puncheons for 10 months. Bottles on 27 February 2025. 200 Cases made.
