2022 Richardson Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Smell
The bouquet is complex and refined, with elegant blackberry and cassis fruit layered with underlying graphite minerality. Subtle oak influence frames the fruit, adding structure and depth without overpowering the varietal character.
Taste
The palate displays classic Cabernet Sauvignon characters of cassis, plum and regional spice. Ripe yet tightly woven tannins bring focus and structure to the densely packed fruit, leading to a long, refined finish with excellent distinction and cellaring potential.
Winemaking Notes
The Richardson Reserve wines are a selection of the finest parcels of fruit grown
on our estate vineyards and are only produced in the most exceptional vintages.
They exist in very limited quantities. The cool to moderate 2022 growing season
resulted in Cabernet Sauvignon benefiting from extended time on the vine prior
to harvest. The 2022 Richardson Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced
entirely from Block 36. A small, one Hectare plot planted in 1996, Block 36 sits
on the upper north-west facing hillside section of Blue Pyrenees Estate on
sandy clay loam and quartz. This combination of aspect, exposure, and soil type
along with vine maturity results in Cabernet Sauvignon of great substance, flair
and varietal typicity. Fermented in open top fermenters for 12- 14 days prior to
pressing, it was matured in 40% new and seasoned French barriques and
hogsheads for 15 months before blending and bottling.
